As we all search for ways to stay active and social while also abiding by new healthy guidelines this season with social distancing, spending time outdoors with friends and family is the answer. Whether you are an avid adventurer or more of a leisure traveler, we have something for everyone here in Forsyth, Georgia!
For the Adventurers
You can definitely spend an entire day (or weekend) here and never run out of adventurous activities. Here are our top picks for the area!
High Falls State Park
One of the largest cascading waterfalls in Georgia is found here at High Falls State Park! You will find 4.5 miles of hiking trails and multiple camping areas surrounding the waterfall. You can also choose to rent boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and aqua-cycles within the park! Spend a day or weekend adventuring at one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Georgia!
Looking for a local swimming or fishing hole? You’ve found it! Launch your boat for a day on the water catching your favorite fresh water fish or bring a few floats and lounge in the water during the summers. Either way, you will be surrounded by gorgeous scenery for a relaxing day in nature.
Ever camped with Kampgrounds of America? You have the opportunity to do so here at the Forsyth KOA! Bring your RV, enjoy rivers full of catfish, surrounding lakes and splashing waterfalls. There is a dog park on site so your furry friends can also have an adventure! If you don’t have an RV, you’re welcome to rent a cabin or yurt on site. Be sure to check out mini-golf or the Forsyth Mining Company to search for local gems and fossils while you are there! The Forsyth Mining Company and mini-golf are open to the public so you don’t need to be a KOA camper to enjoy these activities.
Ocmulgee River Water Trail
Do you prefer water adventures? Bring your paddle-board or kayak and paddle your way along the longest continuous water trail in Georgia! The rapids found along this trail are Class 1 which means it is a great trail for beginners but exciting enough for the more seasoned paddlers.
Need a break from the river? Visit The Whistle Stop Cafe and stores on the movie set for Fried Green Tomatoes.
Dauset Nature Trail
Whether you are coming for a day or spending a long weekend in Forsyth, you will find a beautiful nature trail hike, horseback riding options and it is linked to Indian Springs State Park! You can find campsite areas with cottages for rent. Have your own tent or RV? You will bring it for your adventure!
For the Leisure Travelers
If you are the type of traveler who always has your golf bag in the trunk ready for a chance to improve your swing, we have some great options! Check out the beautiful course at River Forest Golf Club, Forsyth Golf Club, or take the family for an evening of fun at the 18-hole mini-golf course.
Hamlin Hills Farm
Enjoy a day exploring this charming farm! The activities make it a true must-see stop while exploring Forsyth. You can pick strawberries, buy local produce, explore the farm and visit the animals at the petting zoo! Once you work up an appetite, take a break at Hamlin Hills Barbecue for lunch. You will find events at Hamlin Hills throughout the year including a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and a fall music and arts festival.
